Wellington-based Operations Manager Isaac Taingahue and Auckland-based Senior Solutions Architect Lee Ashton have been announced as finalists in the Outstanding Contract Security Manager/Director and Outstanding Security Consultant categories respectively.

“This is global recognition, a wonderful accolade for Isaac and Lee, and evidence of the industry-leading talent, professionalism, and ambition within our Group,” said Optic Security Group Managing Director Mike Cunningham.

“Both Isaac and Lee are already very highly respected across NZ's security industry, and between them have amassed several NZ-based security industry awards on the back of compelling customer testimonials,” he said. “To have them competing on the world stage is 'next level'.”

Isaac and Lee were the winners of their respective categories (Outstanding Contract Security Manager/Director and Outstanding Security Consultant) at the 2024 New Zealand OSPAs.

Headquartered in the UK, the OSPAs are recognised internationally as the benchmark awards program for security professionals. The winners of 14 selected categories from the 48 countries covered by the national-level OSPAs in 2024 have qualified as finalists for the global awards... the best of the best.

According to the 2024 New Zealand OSPAs award judges, Isaac has successfully managed several significant customers including Victoria University of Wellington, Transpower NZ, The Great War Exhibition, the Department of Conservation, and Te Whatu Ora [Health New Zealand], to name just a few.

“Isaac is committed to delivering value-add to his customers, a trait that has characterised his career,” they stated. “The continued high satisfaction of the Wellington team’s long-term customers is testament to this.”

Lee Ashton, a multi-award-winning security technician and security consultant, was described by the 2024 New Zealand OSPAs judges as a champion of customer-driven advisory services who “excels in clear communication, imparting knowledge, and offering standards-based, evidence-based, and fit-for-purpose security risk consultancy.”

“Lee’s holistic understanding spans physical security, health and safety, personnel security, privacy, data protection, cyber security, and organisational resilience,” they said. “His extensive knowledge of enterprise-level security systems enriches his advisory and design work, setting him apart in the industry.”

Global OSPAs winners will be announced at a live online event on 12 February.

Security Advisory

Be vigilant. There has been an increase in reports of false billing scams. If you have received an email with an invoice purporting to be from us, call your Optic Security Group contact person to confirm if it is legitimate. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s National Anti-Scam Centre has reported a 25% increase in losses incurred by Australians from false billing scams in the July-September 2023 quarter compared to the same period last year. This is despite an overall 16% decrease in losses across scam categories.

Payment redirection scams are the most prevalent type of false billing scams. These involve scammers impersonating a business or its employees via email and requesting that money, which usually is owed to the legitimate business, is paid into a fraudulent account. For further information, visit the National Anti-Scam Centre website at https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/.

Optic Security Group will never advise a change of bank details via email. If you have received an email with an invoice purporting to be from us, call your Optic Security Group contact to confirm if it is legitimate.
